I remember putting money in every Sunday when the collection plate came around. My parents always made sure we had something to give..

Me too every Sunday.

Thank you for this beautiful post and message. It is amazing how your experience with the coin at age four affected you and stayed with you to continue the giving spirit.

I love this message, Pam! I could picture your adorbleness as a child, and the feelings that go with it.

I love finding somewhere, each year, and imagining what smiles my donations would bring.

Your reference to church brought a memory of an embarrassing moment for me. Our "pastor" was Alan Young. He was a retired actor who was the star and owner of the talking horse in the show Mr Ed. He would come out each week with a joyful "Good morning!" pause, and get right to it. As a teenager, one Sunday, I was not really paying attention and immediately responded back with a resounding, "Good morning!" I was so embarrassed, as I was the only one who had ever responded. He looked up, quite surprised, smiled, and then went to the sermon. The ending is that when I went back about a month later, everyone in the church, from then on, responded as a group, with "Good morning!"

Such a funny memory. We always seem to remember those embarrassing moments of our youth. Thanks for sharing.
